North Sydney Art Prize at the Coal Loader 2019
Artist Statement
The series titled Coal Loader 1-6 is made up of of six paintings on handmade Korean paper using brush and ink, each 210 x 150 cm. They respond to certain architectural elements inside the Coal Loader at Ball’s Head, North Sydney – doorways between chambers, light emanating from passageways, and underground spaces devoid of natural light.
Tension between dark and light, suggests a movement back into the known or forward towards enlightenment.
They were exhibited at the Coal Loader as part of the North Sydney Art Prize 2019, and later in Spaces between Spaces at See Street Gallery, Meadowbank.
