In 2016 Shinfield travelled to Compeung for an Artist Residency in Northern Thai­land. Human breath, with its repetition and subtle variations as experienced in mediation, is the subject matter of the works made during the residency. Im­ages developed through multiple layers as Shinfield moved through a daily ritual of adding marks. Drawings, paintings and woodcuts on various types of locally sourced Thai paper evolved over this time.
